Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the car, start the engine, and even locate it.
First, put the fob on a clean surface with the logo facing upward. Find the button that will release it. Put G28CarKeys between the cover of the fob and the fob, then slowly pull it up.
Unlocking the Door
Volvo's remote key fobs will unlock the doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap of your vehicle with a touch of one button. Remote key fobs can also turn on the ignition and trigger the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof, when it's equipped. You'll never need to search for your keys or have to worry about locking out of your vehicle.
If you're using a brand-new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might not be aware of its key fob's hidden features. One of these is an unlocked and lock button that you can press in case your key fob battery dies.
To unlock the manual lock or unlock button hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing up. Find the black button on the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open the cover that hides the key blade that is manual. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise using a flathead or coin.
The Engine is Ready to Start
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an unbeatable level of convenience and functionality that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. A key fob, just like any other battery-operated device can lose its charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's a good sign that it needs a new battery.
If your vehicle is fitted with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also use the key fob to activate this feature. The vehicle will then heat or cool to the temperature it was set at when parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. A button is located underneath the cover on an angle, close to the edge of the body. Remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will then come loose and slide off leaving the manual key blade in! If you're unable to locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access to find an undiscovered lever or slot.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs come with a hidden feature that allows you to instantly open all windows. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even simply when you want to get some fresh air in your cabin while driving.
Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if you have one. When you're done with the car you can lock everything by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.
You can also set off the panic alarm inside your car by using the key fob. It will emit an intense, enthralling roar that could frighten away thieves and help you get home in peace after a night out. This feature is useful for those who reside in an area that is dangerous or wish to protect your family while away from home.
The opening of the Tailgate
Volvo has packed its key fob with a number of useful features. They are great when you're busy with groceries or helping your kids to pack their sports gear after practice.
For instance, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it using the key fob. Simply press the button open it, then use the same button to close it once you're done.
Use the key fob whenever you are ready to start the vehicle. (Don't worry if the battery fails or your car doesn't start because it also has an electronic key slot). This is just one of many useful trick for your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs offer a great deal of convenience over a traditional mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly and batteries may die. You can try to program your key fob at home if are in a rush or don't have the time to visit the store.
Lay out your key fobs, batteries, and extra keys on a clean surface. Set the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up and then find a small black button to the left-hand side of the fob and slide it downwards and to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the key blade that is mechanical beneath.
Press the key fob's unlock button two times quickly and you'll be able to unlock all the doors, as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you can close the windows and shut the sunroof when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't then the owner's manual should include a reset option.
